The Marshall Man reviews Mambo Sons
Heavy Days
Part of what makes the Marshall Man site so much fun, is
being able to celebrate not only guitars and amps, but also the
albums and music where guitars and amps are prevalent. Which brings
us to the latest release from power trio extraordinare Mambo
Sons. The album is called Heavy Days and is a 2-dsic
set complete with retro vinyl styling's to let you all know this
is kickin old school. Tom Guerra or Tomcat as he's been known to
be called upon, mans the 6 and 12 string guitars on this one.
The name of the game with the Mambo Sons is rock n roll and Heavy
Days delivers on several angles. Here now is a few track by
track commentaries on the new album ....
She Just Wants to Ride ... Rippin road house rainbowesque
rocker. Great opener. Crowd pleaser and fun out of the box
everytime as we say here at the Marshall Man offices.
The Only Woman ... This toon is a james gang hook laden
rock and roller with a splash of the Black Crows.|
Blues for Zanny ... An instrumental, again Rainbowesque
in all the right places.
The Early Train ... A country rockin mambo originalwith
a Derringer type of feel on the vocals.
Overend Watts ... Mambo Sons unmistakable hook on this Faces/Stones
slide magic.
Everyday Without You ... Let's just give this the Tomcat
ronnie rumble and people's choice award.
Love is Strange ... "Everyone has a white summer now
and then"
Single City ... Gary Moore aint got nothing on Tomcat (ie
Tim Guerra).
The Devil's Kin ... Umm goodness. A kind of Blackmoore thing.
Danger Man?
Heavy Days ... Very dreamscape.
Disc 2
Once in Awhile ... An interesting track. We've grown use
to the guitar magic and and rock and roll with the Sons. A bit of
the old Blond on Blond.
I Love My Family ... Few people are making music like this
anymore. Harkens to an older time. Stand?
You Got Me Fallin ... I always loved keith richards
expensive winos. Tomcat and the Sons brings that feel back with
this one.
Waiting for My Ship to Come In ... ooooh swampy. Keep it
coming.
Friday Night Wine ... This toon has Tom's spirit and drive
All Men Are Pigs ... Well they are.
Song for a Rugger ... Neighbors will ask, "who is this"
when they come over and this song is on the stereo.
Stone Free (Live)* ... Sweet sweet blues. Move over Gilmour.
A Fifth of Twelve ... instrumental. No mystery about the
playing on this cut. A must for your random stack when friends come
over.
So Wonderful ... Marylon Mansen ain't even safe!
This disc is currently available through CD
Baby and itunes.
