Steve Miller Band "Guitar Galaxy" Stage Set

We've always thought that Steve Miller was kind of a cool guy; guitar slinger, appreciation for the blues, Bay Area socialite, etc. On this tour, Steve has a pretty cool piece of stage scenery: the Guitar Galaxy.  One of the coolest and innovative sets seen in a long time.

It consists of a canvas backdrop with the image of a swirling guitar cluster. Note, there are lights attached to the canvas that follow the path of the swirl to make it more galaxy like. Then in front of it is a netting with cloth guitars attached. The guitars represented are taken from Steve's collection. But, blowing all this out of the water, is a giant Strat headstock with neon strings suspended from the center of the lighting rig. And the tuning machines are lights. There are some great shots of the set on Steve's web site and a making of the set video is available here.

Marshall Man snapped pics of this set upclose in the day time to show you more of the behind the scene theatre look to it. Click to enlarge

1960 Gibson J-200

An amazing Gibson specimen, ordered with a Super 400 neck. Last of the Orange Label. This guitar exemplifies the flamie-ness of late 50s, early 60s Gibson guitars that would later become the the heart of the Paul Reed Smith Ten Top craze and other guitar manufactures of the 80s through today. Other notable attributes include the moustache bridge and Everly Brother styled double pick guard, for those who like a good up strum. Guitar was factory refinished in 1998 and now includes a non original Gibson Case.

Album review: Mambo Sons Heavy Days

The latest release from The Mambo Sons (Heavy Days) has hit our door and we love it. 20 songs of old school rock and roll and enough guitar and guitar playing to last you until Blackmoore laces up the faire boots and hits the stage once more. We decided to do a track by track cliff notes style review so that the average layman can understand the guitarouso which is the Mambo Sons and why you too will become a believer. (more)
